Engagement Party in the Making

Engagement Party in the Making

My baby bro is getting married!! I'm so excited for him and his fiancé, Leah. And who am I kidding, myself, because I get to have parties and go to parties!! I'll have the pleasure of getting dressed up, drinking fancy cocktails and toasting the ones I love.

I am co-hosting, with my sister and her sister, an engagement party for them. Invitations are addressed, stamped and off to the post. I'm feeling a little conflicted about this par-tay.  The boat club is just a little rough esthetically. I also want it to be kinda themed but not too theme-y. You follow? It's a "boat club" so initially the obvious choice was anchors and such. I found adorable invitation options on etsy (always) but they were more cutesy than I envision for the occasion. SO then I thought it should be like a anchor-tattoo type thing (different, right?) Sailor Jerry esque perhaps? That's too off the wall, un-executable even, I don't want to veer off into pirate territory. Not exactly fitting their personalities either. They are young but hipsters they are not.

The boat club needs help and we are def on a budget. I'm a bit at a loss with the space. The chairs are mismatched old school bar style, and the tables are 90's edition plastic to look like wood. I don't want a glitzy gala AT ALL but its gotta look palatable. Decor is THE challenge.

Food plan is down homey bbq compliments of my awesome dad and grill master, Gary. Leah's sister, myself and my sister will do some seasonal and simple dishes to complement. We are expecting 80+ so thats basically crazy to do without a caterer.. but there's that budget. We do have the benefit of my parents owning a bar and grill. That takes a lot of challenge out of the equation.

I want it to be classy but not pretentious, tongue in cheek with an element of surprise. Most of all I want it to be FUN. I'm pin-pin-pining away and soon I'll whittle it down to a plan. SOON. I made it over there to take some pics and measure on Monday. I found some wedding type white chair covers used on Craig's at a steal. It's happening.

The rest of this week is dedicated to the home tour prep, none of which I have done. None. I need to buy stuff, clean stuff, redecorate stuff and worst of all paint some stuff. So that's my life right about now. T-5 to tour day. EEK.
